Why you should follow Deepika Padukone’s skincare tips?

A skincare routine is essential for maintaining clean, healthy skin. “It removes dead skin cells and counters the effects of pollution,” shares veteran beauty expert Dr Blossom Kochhar.

Here’s why Deepika Padukone’s beauty routine is good for your skin:

1. Eating right

Consuming a balanced diet rich in minerals, vitamins, and proteins provides essential nutrients that maintains skin health. “Foods rich in antioxidants, like berries and leafy greens, can fight free radicals and reduce skin damage,” says dermatologist Dr Akriti Gupta.

2. Sleeping well

Quality sleep is crucial for your overall health. As for your skin, good quality sleep lets your skin recover from daily stressors. A link was found between chronic poor sleep quality and diminished skin barrier function and increased signs of ageing during a 2015 study published in the Clinical and Experimental Dermatology journal. So, sleep well for at least seven hours every night.

3. Hydration

Staying hydrated is vital for maintaining skin moisture. Drinking plenty of water helps keep the skin plump, and youthful by supporting its natural barrier function, says Dr Kochhar. Proper hydration also helps to flush out toxins, reducing the risk of blemishes and dryness.

4. Physical activity

Regular exercise may increase blood flow to the skin, and improve skin moisture, according to a research published in JMIR Publications in March 2024. Increased blood flow supports skin cell regeneration and a healthy, glowing complexion.
Sweating during exercise also helps detoxify the skin by removing impurities and unclogging pores.

5. Cleanse, hydrate, and protect

A comprehensive skincare routine that includes cleansing, hydrating, and protecting the skin is essential. Cleansing removes dirt, oil, and all kinds of impurities, and this in turn prevents clogged pores and breakouts. Hydration keeps the skin barrier intact, preventing dryness and irritation. “Using products like sunscreen can protect skin against damage from ultraviolet rays, reducing the risk of skin cancer and premature ageing,” says Dr Gupta.

6. Full body massage

“A full body massage can promote detoxification by stimulating the lymphatic system, which manages the fluid levels in the body, and improving circulation,” says Dr Kochhar. It helps relax the muscles, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. The increased blood flow during a massage delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the skin, resulting in a healthy appearance.

7. Face mask

Using a face mask once a week is like giving your skin a deep treatment. Face masks can help to freshen up the skin, tighten pores, and smooth out fine lines, leaving the skin looking radiant.

8. Hair mask

A hair mask deeply conditions the hair, providing essential nutrients and moisture. It helps to control frizz, repair damage, and strengthen the hair strands. “Using a hair mask can improve the overall health and appearance of the hair, making it shinier, smoother, and more manageable,” says Dr Kochhar.

Natural ingredients in beauty products

Deepika Padukone uses natural ingredients in skincare products to fight back all the damage that regular use of make-up and chemicals do to her skin! Some of these include:

1. Lotus

The Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) in lotus skincare products are designed to cleanse, and brighten the skin. AHAs can effectively remove dead skin cells and promote gentle exfoliation. Once you get rid of dead skin, you will naturally get glowing skin.

2. Turmeric

“Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce redness and irritation from sun exposure,” says Dr Gupta. Rich in antioxidants, turmeric combats free radicals generated by UV rays, preventing premature ageing and skin damage.

3. Rose

“Rose extracts and rose water are rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E, which provide deep hydration and nourish the delicate under-eye skin, reducing dryness and flakiness,” says Dr Gupta. Rose extract can help lighten dark circles by improving blood circulation and reducing pigmentation.

A skincare routine is crucial for maintaining glowing skin and preventing problems like dryness and acne. If you don’t know how to start a skincare routine then take a leaf out of Padukone’s “skincare” book.
